A Girl, A Dream and A Leap of Faith
•Posted on March 19 2018

I'm a right brainer, a creative, a dreamer, a potion maker and a believer of the natural power of Mother Earth. For as long as I can remember, I have found great joy in creating for others, especially goods for the skin. What started out as crafting items for friends and family, sparked an idea that I couldn't get out of my mind. And as they say, if it's something you can't stop thinking about, then it is worth pursuing. I thought to myself, why not me? Why not chase my crazy dream? We are given only one chance on this beautiful planet and I wanted to embrace the quirky, modern hippie I have always felt to be, but was a little fearful to show to others. It is sometimes hard to just be yourself for some reason, it makes you vulnerable and that my friends can be an uncomfortable space to live in. After all, most of us are not taught that being non-traditional or unconventional can be a thing. Or that we can have a career that follows suit. You can do amazing things no matter what direction you choose! And trust me, it really is freeing to just be exactly who you are. No more fear I told myself, it was time to take a leap of faith.
So I started writing it all down and if you would visit me at home, I could show you the thousands of notebooks with scribbles of ideas for recipes, ingredients, aromatic profiles and illustrations of my visions. I wanted my creations to be special. To not only nourish the skin, but invoke feeling for the heart and mind. To be full of soul and to elevate self-care. I wanted them to be made with minimal, natural ingredients that could showcase how magical plant-based goods could be. I began by putting one foot in front of the other. I started researching, sourcing ingredients, creating and testing. I set positive intentions and wrote down how I felt when I tested each product to ensure it invoked the feeling I intended. I formulated and reformulated until my skincare goods looked, felt and smelled just how I envisioned. When the recipes were just right, I set my eye on packaging. After commissioning a designer and all of the work was done, it just wasn't right. It didn't feel right. So I dug down and started over. I found a new, local designer that so beautifully saw my vision and captured it in her designs. Website design, product descriptions and photos were next on the list. I spent hours pouring over every detail and learning along the way. While the whole process to get to market took longer than I anticipated, it taught me patience. That small steps forward are progress. To believe so fiercely in my dream, that as days turned to months, I could do hard things and it would come. When all of the initial work was done and I launched, I was overwhelmed with love and support. There may have been tears and a large glass of celebratory wine.
The hard work is far from done though and my magnificent journey is just beginning. I know there will be days when doubt attempts to creep in, but I am bigger than my fears and I will persist. I will hang tightly to being the creator of my own story and in the positive belief of myself and my goods.
In the end though friends; I am just a girl, who had a dream and took a leap of faith. And you know what? That can be you too! What are you passionate about? What brings you joy? Remember, you can do hard things and create the life you want! I believe in you! The hardest part sometimes is just beginning. Put one foot in front of the other and take that leap of faith. There is no better day than today!
Much love,
Kelsey
